According to Bruce Feldman's twitter. We dropped an undetermined number of spots in the AP poll due to OK State's win over A&M (wonder how many Aggie Squeezes there were last night?)

We are #6 in the AP and only separated by four points. Ok State has a bye next week and if we take care of business, we will probably flip flop with them.

Tight use of the transitive property with Arizona shows similar comfortable victories but ours was @ AZ with Juron Criner (less than 100%); OSU's at home without him.
Our win clearly more impressive hence a #5 ranking readily defensible.

Although....come to think of it, maybe it would be a good thing (for his growth as a person, not for his players or fans) if he WERE a coach and got his a** ground to peanut butter for a few weeks in a row. Might give him more respect for winning streaks and how hard it is to be good.

Well, Wilner's a boob but many of his ratings are at least somewhat defensible, except rating Oregon over Stanford. Both resumes feature wins over weakish teams. One resume has multiple road wins; the other does not. That other resume also has a loss on it. Somehow Wilner decides--despite his alleged emphasis on resume, resume, resume--that the other resume is better than Stanford's.

But Sagarin's Predictor rankings suggest that Stanford would be a very slight favorite in a neutral venue today. Stanford is helped by SJSU's decent showings since the Stanford loss and Duke's amazing play in the ACC. Meanwhile, Oregon has a loss to perhaps the best team in the NCAA, a couple of cupcake wins and a win (by a smaller margin) to a common opponent.
In the end it is early, but it does appear that the Pac-12 North & ultimately the Pac-12 Champion will likely be decided on November 12th. If Stanford was not a smallish private school in the West Gameday would be comin' to our city.
Stanford has opened as a 22 point favorite against UCLA. So I guess Vegas odds makers are thinking the 2011 team is doing just fine.

Meh... don't really care what the exact ranking is at this point as long as we are somewhere in the top 10 (and therefore not out of sight).
All I want for now is for us to keep winning and for other undefeated teams to lose...

Unfortunately, rankings now are important for setting the tone for how we'll be ranked should (god forbid) we lose a game or two. If we want to keep in the BCS picture, outside of winning the Pac12, then we're going to need to be respected nationally. That being said, being in the top 6 is a-okay by me. I am of the mind set that we have a long way to go.
Some of the readers of of his blog have found some interesting inconsistencies in Wilner's logic. I thought the UGA vs GTech disparity was especially interesting:
"So Arkansas goes on the road to the number 3 team in the nation and loses and that drops them out of the top 25 from 14th? A&M loses to the number 7 team at home, and you drop them 3 spots."
" Oregons wins: Nevada, Missouri State (!), at Arizona
Stanfords wins: SJSU, at Duke, at Arizona

My point wasn't that the AP poll rankings matter, but rankings in general. However, I suspect that there's a non-negligible amount of influence across rankings. They're too similar for there to not be some cross-pollination.
