Drew Dalman Declares for NFL draft

The center is the 2nd most important position on offense. The center not only has to snap the ball and block, but has a key role to recognize what the defense is likely to do and then call the protection package. The center is a coach on the field. Stanford's offensive success has usually aligned with an experienced center - Chase Beeler (final year - 2010), Sam Schwartzstein (final year - 2012), Graham Shuler (final year - 2015). Drew Dalman's leadership and experience showed in the improvement of the offense this year. I wish him well in his life after Stanford, but I think breaking in a new center will be a step back for the offense for next season.

I had a feeling Dalmam would. I read somewhere rating his blocking skills as mixed but I remember how Ed McCaffrey made noise after Christian’s 2nd year that players should be able to go to the NFL Sooner so it seemed sometimes NFL legacies can be more eager to go.
Now Davis Mills’ decision gains even more significance. You can lose a qb, you can lose a center, but you don’t want to lose both in one year.
At this point, it feels like Mills stays, which seems like a good call for him.
So far with 2 early declares (and the two we expected) and 2 non-starters in the transfer portal, so far, pretty good.

I would not count on any particular player staying.

Yep. I expect the third shoe to drop sooner rather than later.
BTW, remember when Stanford players used to stay for 5 years to use up their eligibility? The last few years have been pretty discouraging on that front.

Stanford will not turn around the program to anywhere near its glory years if they don't do a better job of retaining and recruiting talent. I don't see any signs that they're trending towards either of those situations.

He made a big leap during the off-season and was much stronger this year. Like any player, he did lose a few battles but he did certainly up his game over 2019, IMHO. Makes sense for him to go. He probably has little left to prove.

There are lots of players you can count on returning, but not for the right reasons.
My recollection is that the ncaa and nfl have colluded so players can’t go until they’ve been in college a minimum of 3 years, so actually we know quite a few key starters are returning, unless they transfer befroe getting a degree, which doesn’t seem common at Stanford.

NFL CBA says you can't go pro until three years after your senior year in high school, which as others have mentioned for a player who goes on a two year mission means after one year of college football (or one year of training for the draft).

Has an LDS true freshman/redshirt freshman/true sophomore ever declared "super early" and been drafted before?
