I said when it was announced he was transferring to MSU that it was an awful decision. Not a good fit. Plus Leach's first year.
It was worse than that. He played poorly, then he got hurt, then he was beaten out by a true frosh. I feel bad for him. Whoever was advising him did him a grave disservice.
I don't know about that. KJ will have the memories of knocking off defending national champion LSU Tigers for life - and he undoubtedly was the talk of the college football world for that first weekend. Would he have had a better experience standing on the sidelines for 6 games (and no bowl) at Stanford?
As far as pro chances go, there is no difference.
With Mills out with the COVID clusterfark, he’d have started against Oregon, and may have started against Colorado, given Mills had a limited practice time.

LSU was not very good this year. But sure he had one game. I don’t think his expectation was to go to MSU. Have one great game, stink out the joint from that game forward, get hurt, lose his job to a Freshman and not see much more time. Who said his only other option was to stay at Stanford? I’m guessing he had other opportunities. (I wonder if Iowa was interested. Stanley graduated. Their QB coming in was not good. It’s a similar style to Stanford. With a strong o-line. That would have been a great fit).
And I disagree - I think he hurt his draft position. He certainly didnt help it. Although I’m not sure it was particularly strong to begin with.
I agree, Iowa would have been interesting.
Plus, from KJ's perspective, there was a possibility that there wasn't even going to be a Pac-12 football season. Quite frankly, it was embarrassing that there was a Pac-12 football season in terms of (1) they irresponsibly reversed their originally responsible decision (from an athlete, student, staff, and public health perspective) of cancelling the entire season due to Covid, (2) they did it just in time to contribute to the worst wave of the pandemic, and (3) the product that was put on the field was terrible. The Pac-12 was maybe the 7th best conference in college football this year. So if KJ wanted to be able to play, leaving Stanford was actually in his best interest.
So yeah, I don't see how him staying at Stanford would have been better for him, but I agree that MSU was wrong for him.
