OSU’s first goal was on the most awful giveaway: lazy pass in midfield was intercepted leading to a 50 yard free run to a 1:1 against our goalie.

but shots on goal only 7 to 4. The beavs had a good game plan: pack it in on defense, and when they got the ball counterattack in transition with a long kick upfield. Worked pretty well to keep us from scoring, but didn't result in a score for them. They scored on a bad defensive mistake, a horizontal pass across the field by our center back that was intercepted by their forward who was then one-on-one with our GK (mistake by a freshman who probably will never make that mistake again--many defenders have something like that happen at some point*) and a poorly defended corner kick (the only one they took). We mostly took long distance shots that went either right at the GK or not on frame; one trickled in. The shots we got close to goal all went wide. not a good game for us--the beavs' first win ever at Cagan.

*I remember Alana Cook, our superstar defender, in I think her first game, holding onto the ball too long and letting a forward get too close to her, steal the ball and score. Never saw that happen again. (she redeemed herself later that game by scoring a goal on a header)

Yup. Quantity, but not as much quality from Stanford last night. Can't help but wonder how different things might've looked if Doms' header had gone in after hitting the post instead of bouncing back completely across the goal down the end line.

All that being said, a terrifically organized & cohesive effort by the Beavers' back line. Fun match to call. Pac-12 might be even more of a gauntlet for everyone than usual!
