If you're wondering, as I was, where Fran's dunk fit in the NCAA tournament history -- it was only the 3rd dunk in the women's tournament. Previous two were Griner in 2013 and Candace Parker in 2006.

Quote:Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said she was excited that Belibi got to have a special moment, but it was just one play in one game in their quest to win back-to-back national championships. Stanford takes on No. 8 seed Kansas in the second round on Sunday.
"I did remind her that it's two points and the next play down, there was a girl that got a layup," VanDerveer said. "It was [Belibi's] girl, so I was like, 'Come on, Fran.'"

I noticed this at the time as well and wanted to blame it on the new balls but Lexie sure adjusted well last night!
Quote:Murphy stated that Wilson worked with the NCAA and several of its schools to create a ball that has "an extra layer of grip," and is "easier to shoot from long-range."

Thanks for the link about the new balls. From the link,

I wonder if the aerodynamics of the ball has changed, the way golf ball design helps the flight of the ball. Or the weight distribution (I only recently saw about the interior of bowling balls being non uniform)
As Lexie kept draining 3s last night, I was beginning to consider whether the 3 (at whatever distance) is getting too easy to hit and is making basketball a battle of stand-off artillery.
It would be interesting to know what schools used the new ball and if the stats show better 3PT and FT shooting.
Also, I wonder if all the schools now have access to the tournament ball and can practice with it.

For the season, three point shooting is down marginally from last year, but it’s not improving.
