Pretty sure that's incorrect, M T, as I too wondered why there wasn't a handshake line between the players.

What was the call? A hand check? The ref pointed at the spot, but I can't quite make out her signal. Someone please look at the video and tell me what happened there. The signal (both immediately after the whistle (partly blocked), and then as the ref walked toward the scorers table) was for two hands on the dribbler. (parallel arms, hands with palms toward each other)
I mean, that was a pretty critical moment. If she deserved the foul then fine, it was hard to see so I really don't know. But if the ref actually called a hand check after all the contact they let go during the game, I'm not sure how you make that call at that point in time. That was of immense proportions.
There was only the live coverage of the play, at the far opposite end of the court with Harmon's body in the way. What I interpret happened is that Harmon puts her (wrapped) right forearm in front of Haley's left hip. Clearly she doesn't have a hand just on Haley's hip or else we'd see it, but is instead seemingly impeding Haley. Then we see Harmon's (bare) left arm move toward Haley, and then both arms are invisible to us.
![[Image: Harmon-Haley6.png]](https://i.ibb.co/CWzdzLk/Harmon-Haley6.png)
This was another questionable play by Haley. She went right into the lion's den when she didn't have to, at a critical time.
Also, I respectfully disagree with "I thought the game was over-called and it really hurt both teams and could have decided the game.". I think of it like "The cops give too many tickets for speeding". If fewer fouls were called, the play would have been rougher and there would have been more (uncalled) fouls.

Agree re: refs and the plethora of whistles.
Also not sure what call was on the one you point out - real time, or upon review. (MT's guess as good as any).
And if we're making requests, am still looking for the foul on Haley's end of Q3 shot. I could not see any contact, and it sure looked like Haley took a dive. [Thought it strange there was no replay shown real-time, and I've watched link a couple times just now and was unable to see anything]. That was also a big play - 3 FTs that Haley, to her credit, canned.

What I’m here for. TYVM. Refs missed a few calls, so what else is new? Re calling game close, they were determined to not let Texas get away with their usual bullying style. Sadly, it appears that the “large, slow, tall girl in the middle” strategy is becoming common. Saw it in many games this year. I’d rather watch basketball than wrestling.
Texas gets full marks for a terrific passing offense. And we got out of the brawl with no injuries. I’ll take the W.

IMO, neither Maryland nor Texas changed their aggressive style of defense throughout the game as a reaction to the number of fouls being called.

They did lose, though, so at least it's arguable that the refs calling fouls helped prevent the maul ballers from getting away with it

Think you have a point and why we tend to get more of the ticky tack or phantom ones called us all season. I know from sources that refs generally, not always, try to even out, or roughly so, the fouls between teams. This is their way of showing that the refs are deciding the game. So if one team is fouling a lot and gets called, the refs often will start calling them on the other team even in lesser fouls that normally would not get a whistle.

Was it 3Q when we got into the bonus within the first 2-3 min and never got another whistle? I thought that was going to make a difference at the time.
I think this was mentioned, but one of Tara's brilliant moves in the game (in addition to the 3Q zone) was playing Fran over Anna for much of the game. While Anna's primary skill is defense, Fran's is rebounding, and I think that Tara knew that we needed offensive boards to make up for turnovers, and we needed to limit Texas to one shot if they were going to key in on mid-range. Playing Cam and Fran together for much of the game was really effective.

Belibi has been playing very well. Our two post lineups have all worked well. If Jones can play the 3 with a three-point threat to spread the floor it will help her game, open things up, and help the team, should we want to go big.
