The problem I saw with this before the season was that Higgins had been, to date, one of the most Charmin Soft players to ever play for us. He forced an appalling 5 missed tackles on 45 catches last season. It's not clear in any case a big receiver necessarily has the between the tackles skill set and to go down at first contact almost every single time wasn't a good indicator. But Higgins has improved a lot in this regard this year, already breaking 12 tackles this year on 31 catches. The bigger issue I see is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Our WR corps is nowhere as good or as deep as we thought heading into the year given that the only WR who's played well is unavailable. I think I'd rather see Brendon Barrow at RB than Silas Starr at WR, so
Higgins making the move would strike me as a mixed bag.
Like Ty Montgomery? I had this discussion with someone when I was clamoring for his switch to full-time RB in 2014. This dissenter insisted that Montgomery went down too easily, that it took only one defender to tackle him . I told him that he was referring to certain plays where a defender took him down low, always on those horizontal passes where he was hit before he could turn upfield.
Whenever the 6-1 220 lb. Montgomery got touches from the RB position that season, he did very well running between the tackles and finishing runs by driving defenders backwards. He quickly was switched to RB in the NFL.
I thought Higgins might be worth a look at RB because of the way I saw him finish some runs when he was able to get started. He blew up some defenders on more than one occasion.
I think he's the best player on the team. He needs to get the ball more often, one way or another.
