Any buyout of Shaw is going to need to be funded by boosters.  Is that money there?

Unless the cost of keeping him is greater than the cost of not. Those costs include season tickets/concessions, donations, and player who will transfer if he stays.

Muir miscalculated this with regard to Dawkins and kept him around for way too long, leading to Maples becoming a hollow cavern (that sadly Haase hasn't been able to bring back). I hope he doesn't make the same miscalculation with Shaw.

Dawkins' Stanford record was 156-115 (.576); 66-78 (.458) in conference.  Haase's is 99-90 (.524); 52-60 (.464) in conference.  As coaches they are basically indistinguishable, except that Haase seems to be a better recruiter of high end talent, but does less with the talent he has.

It's hard to say that Muir "miscalculated' in the timing of firing Dawkins given that the replacement has been no different than Dawkins; it's a broader failure.

Two separate and distinct situations please don't confound the two.

Muir had no idea the mediocrity would continue under Dawkins. My point is that by keeping Dawkins around, Muir helped turn Maples into a hollow cavern. MBB lost a substantial number of season ticket holders during that time, which was part of the "cost" of keeping him.

Haase has not delivered as many of us thought he would. His track record coming in the door gave fans good reasons to be optimistic that there would be a turnaround. Sadly that hasn't happened.
