The second quarter went much better than the first, 28-8. Iriafen still has not missed, 5-5. Jones is 0-3 from three point range. When the threes don't go in--and they did not in the 1st quarter--everything else seems harder. But 25% of our threes....we will need better than that against South Carolina.

It's hard to see what's going on with this crappy livestream. It seems like we are getting out hustled in general. We settled down in the 2nd Q and started playing better, but still a little frantic.

Maybe the wrong players shooting them. Not convinced Haley has gotten a lot better. Cam had some of our misses too.
Hannah is 4-4 now.

Three point shooting heated up for us. Now up to 9/19 thanks in large part to Prechtel's 3/4 and Jump's 4/4.

Brink is back to her fouling ways. Has only played 13 minutes in 3 quarters. With only 4:34 to play, Brink has 3 fouls and no other Stanford player has more than 1.

Is it too early to proclaim Iriafen the next great Stanford star?

One nit to pick but I think it's curable. If I'm scouting Stanford, and if my team is playing help D, I would point out that EVERY time Betts gets ready to shoot she puts the ball on the floor. Even when she's three feet away on the low block. Need some strong coaching on Stanford's part to take that tell away. She can get away with that against creampuff opponents but top-level defenders will gladly take the extra half-second to get into position.

Kiki with 15 points in 15 minutes. Ashten with 11 points in 11 minutes. Betts leading all rebounders in only 12 minutes of play.

Iriafen is indeed the next star. As a freshman she was already showing the moves and confidence down low that it took years for McCall, Dodson, or Fingall to develop, and this year she has added an accurate jumper and superb defense. She deserves to be a starter. And she will need that jumper against South Carolina.
Games balls to Prechtel and Jump for jolting our three point shooting out of a slump. And how they did!
Best stat: James was held to 2/14.

Alas, we did not break 100. Once again, a laugher over an overmatched opponent. Our bench beat Pacific 50-44.
13 players scored; 8 scored 7 or more points and three (Iriafen, Jump, and Prechtel) were in double digits. Twelve players got double digit minutes.
Sharpshooters of the game were Jump (4/4 from three), Prechtel (3/4 from three). As a team, we shot 43% from 3, 59% overall, and 71% from the free throw line.
3 players (Betts with 10, Iriafen with 8, and Jones with 7) had at least 7 rebounds. Brink and Betts each had three brinks. Although Pacific nabbed more offensive rebounds than we did, it was just based on the fact that we just didn't leave many rebounds to be grabbed on our offensive end. Pacific left 56 missed shots (and free throws) to be rebounded, and we got 40 of them (71% of available defensive rebounds). On our end, we only left 30 shots to be rebounded, and nabbed 11 (37%, so Pacific grabbed 63% of the available defensive rebounds). Given our size, it could have been better, but hardly the concern some people made it during the game.
Lepolo led the team in assists, but she had an equal number of turnovers. Sloppy day all around, with 16 turnovers, one more than Pacific. Probably the one thing Tara will be pissed about.

That stream was poor, as was some of the officiating. We were sloppy early yet still almost hit 100. I understand why some teams use the score board feed and show replays but my goodness, it is insanely annoying when I see one of our players wind up for a long pass and it cuts to a stupid replay of a common shot. Even fans of the home team want to see the live action, not a replay of every basket.
Anyway, early season and can't all be great games. We are not that happy with a 50+ point win, that tells us something. Rebounding was not great and too many turnovers. Too many fouls too, although some were phantom.
