I think having beaten SC really helps us here. Arguably, SC is playing the best football in the Pac-12 right now (perhaps anywhere outside the SEC) and we beat them on the road. That's big!

As for VTech -- if they beat UVa and Clemson, I don't think we have a chance to pass them. But hopefully they'll lose one of those. And we could use some losses to some of the name-brand B1G 2-loss teams (esp. Michigan) just to make sure none of the BCS bowls are tempted by their large fan bases come at-large pick time (unless, of course, we get in the top 4).

Ala., Ark., OK. State, and Va. Tech will all finish ahead of Stanford, assuming all of those teams finish with one loss. So those are the four teams, in addition to Oregon, that we should be rooting against.

If all four lose one more game, and Stanford beats ND -- not an impossible scenario! -- then Stanford will play in the National Championship game.

If two out of those four lose one more game, and Stanford beats ND -- a fairly likely scenario -- then Stanford will finish in the top 4 and be guaranteed a BCS bowl spot.

Regardless, I have a hard time seeing an 11-1 Stanford (playing with the likely #1 NFL draft pick) being passed over for a BCS bowl spot.

Why should beating UVa or Clemson impress anyone (except for a blind computer perhaps)?!?  The ACC sucks, and while Garvin's right about the computer not caring about what we did to them next year, he's missing a key fact in his analysis: Oregon has 2 losses and we only have one, which like their first one, was largely due to committing an un-survivable number of turnovers (at least that's why they beat us by so much, in addition to bad tackling and missed holding calls).

I'm no BCS computer guru, but I suspect that Clemson and VA Tech benefit from schedules that included "tough" (i.e., once highly ranked) Miami and FSU teams, who clearly did not prove to be worthy of those preseason rankings.

Yes, that's right, although I think that OK State losing is definitely necessary for Stanford's hopes to stay alive.

The fact that Va. Tech is in the top 5 irks me SO much.  We talk about what a top 5 team looks like, but c'mon man!  Va. Tech beat Duke by 4 and East Carolina by 7.  They haven't beaten a single team (other than Appalachian State) by more than 21.  Do people across the nation really believe they are better than Stanford, Ok. State, Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, South Carolina, etc.??

The Pac-12 is not great but the ACC is a joke.  If they were winning in convincing fashion, I wouldn't begrudge them with the fact that they're in a poor conference.  However, they're barely getting by not decent, not mediocre, but BAD teams!

And even if OK state beats Oklahoma, I feel the fairest way to compare 1-loss teams is to compare those losses.  Looking at the teams that 1-loss teams were beaten by, we have LSU, Alabama, Oregon, Clemson and Iowa State.  Which one is different from the rest?
