Netherlands beat everybody\'s commonsense favorite (if not emotional favorite) Brazil 2-1.   Oh, to be in the streets of Buenos Aires when that Brazil news broke.  

Now to get revenge on my sister.   She worked two tours in Ghana and showed only the faintest pretense of conflict when Ghana beat the U.S.   Well, if you want hopes and dreams snuffed out,  Germany\'s got history on its side.   Also,  Germany seems to have shelved the Wehrmacht-at-Stalingrad style of soccer for something a little more dynamic.  Had to tap the Turkish gene pool to do it,  but as a former Stanford-in-Germany guy,  gotta be rooting for them.

Germany\'s not France, but they are experiencing minor currents of racial tension (from what I\'ve heard) regarding the increasing influx of Turkish immigrants in recent years.  Here\'s hoping soccer can mitigate that culture clash.  Of course, the Germans are no fan of Ghana, unfortunately for those German-Ghanaians.

Also, Melo with an own goal and a red card in the same game?  Brazil\'s biggest handicap, shoot.  I don\'t think any team could survive that terrible pair of mistakes.
