The freshmen had a good showing at the Girls' 18s nationals earlier this month.
Katherine Hui was the runner up, losing in three sets to Clervie Ngounoue, the junior Wimbledon champion. Hui cruised in the first set but couldn't come through with the match. Her serve let her down from the parts I was able to watch. Still, she was the only player to take a set off Ngounoue and picked up some nice wins along the way. She beat teammate Eleana Yu in a three-set semifinal match and topped Reese Brantmeier of UNC in a tight quarterfinal match. Brantmeier played No. 1 singles for UNC in their championship match last season so that's a great win.
Hui would have gotten a wild card into the U.S. Open main draw had she won the tournament. Instead she gets a wild card into the women's qualifying draw, and also a wild card into the main draw of the junior tournament.
Valerie Glozman, a recent commit who will join the team a year from now, lost to Ngounoue in the semifinals and gets a wild card into the main draw of the junior tournament as well. She was supposed to play Yu in the third-place match but Yu withdrew due to injury. Hopefully she's healthy. Not sure if she was able to qualify for the junior U.S. Open through some other means, but it's possible she'll be there too.
