Speaking of Leland, does anyone remember when Alex P. Keaton was going to "Leland University"?  I always thought that was an obvious ripoff of Leland Stanford Jr. University.  Maybe a Stanford alum was one of the writers?

Well, I was only about 14 years old when that season of Family Ties came out.  For the longest time, I thought that the Leland where Alex was going to school and Leland Stanford Jr. University were one in the same.  I thought it was a Jr. University where Stanford bound students went before they actually went to Stanford!  I was very confused.
