Quinn Mathews, who's off to a terrific start in the St. Louis Cardinals organization after being selected in the fourth round of last year's draft, has been chosen to participate in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
In his first year of pro ball, Mathews has added velocity to his fastball, which averaged 91.6 MPH in his final season at Stanford. He's reportedly thrown as fast as 97.3 MPH this year. He's now pitching at Double-A Springfield after speeding through two prior stops. In 14 starts across all levels this season, Mathews has a 2.03 ERA., and hitters are batting .143 against him.
So much for concerns about his 156-pitch outing against Texas in the 2023 Super Regionals!
Mathews is now rated as the #2 prospect in the Cardinals' organization and the #100 prospect in MLB. The All-Star Futures Game will air on MLB Network at 1 p.m. PT on Sat., July 13.
