Yes, it was bad business. There is a 9' drop from the stands down to the stadium and a lot of people misjudged it. My understanding is that one of the students who was critically injured broke his neck. Apparently, he got to the ledge, stopped and the crowd was surging forward and pushed him over. It wasn't anything done in malice, but just a bad accident. Truly is a shame.

Wrong. He jumped onto some tarp (over the tunnel where the team comes out), attempting to slide down to the field, but the tarp wasn't made for a man's weight. Fell something like ten to twenty feet.Â
Most of the injuries were rolled ankles and things like that.

Wow, just thinking that a guy broke his neck is scary!
I've rushed a field only twice, at Berkeley in 1990 and one less consequential upset. It's only a couple of feet there, but once part of a section starts rushing, the whole section is almost pushed into the wave, which is what happened the second time.
