George Raveling, a hall of fame basketball coach at Washington State, Iowa and USC, has passed away at 88.
But perhaps his most notable achievement and legacy was being on the stage providing security during Martin Luther King Jr's I Have A Dream Speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. When MLK was finished speaking, he gave Raveling the original copy of his speech. Raveling kept it for most of his life, refusing all offers to buy it. He recently gave it to his alma mater Villanova. He was a living civil rights pioneer.
