I can't comment specifically about this young man, and I wouldn't even if I knew him.  But I can say that SJSU has placed a much higher emphasis on academics since Tom Bowen arrived and the new NCAA AP regimen went into place.  (Of course, SJSU suffered years of scholarship penalties while it "got the message.")

I can easily see how SJSU at this stage might be significantly more rigorous academically (on its athletes) than big time football factory schools.
