Ted's Buddy can certainly inspire enough loathing on his own,  but believe it or not,  there was somebody worse on that misbegotten staff.  WR coach David Kelly turned out to be a monumentally bad choice by Buddy,  but somehow transcended the blame Buddy deserved for the hire.  Relentlessly self-promoting, political, scheming, disloyal and toxic in the way he handled players,  he played Buddy like a $5 banjo.  Somehow badgered and convinced a weak Teevens  into a promotion to co-offensive coordinator post and it degenerated to the point that Kelly was reported overriding calls and sending his own plays in during the game.  A cancer that eventually got excised from Stanford .

Kelly has managed to move through college football by staying a step ahead of the people figuring out his agenda.  Well, they finally caught up.  In Novermber the NCAA  brought the house crashing down on Kelly who forced out at Univ. of Central Florida along with the Athletic Director.  NCAA recruiting violations.  This is somewhat old news, but as a bitter survivor of BuddyBall, when I saw this link on the Bootleg,  I figured there might be others out there equally interested

I have vague memories about chatter regarding Kelly, but nothing but fond recollections for Tom Quinn. Buddy hired him from San Jose State, I believe, and Quinn coached the hell out of special teams, later moving to the defensive side of the ball to coach defensive ends, I believe.

I'm not sure if Quinn left when Buddy left, but he was obviously a good coach. He landed in the NFL with the Giants, and has been their special teams coordinator for the last five years (he had one year before that as a "special assistant"  with the club).

Anyway, the Giants punting game hasn't been without fault over the years (think: Desean Jackson), but, overall, I would say they played great during the playoffs this year.

I'd post this recollection in the Tarver thread, but I suspect a top NFL special teams coordinator isn't going to come back to Stanford for a co-defensive coordinator position (I believe John Harbaugh went from special teams coordinator to HC).

Tom Quinn was a very good coach for us.  IIRC, he survived BuddyBall  and got the hell out of Dodge under Wlat's regime, joining the NY Giants.  He was a great coach and I guess he's feeling like an NFL champion right about now.  DJ Durkin,  who left the Harbaugh regime for Florida was just named Recruiter of the Year by some organization that actually cares about those honorifics. 

And now, Tarver to the Raiders.    Man, were we ever lucky to have the Harbaugh palace guard together as along as we did.  The man was not afraid to make changes.
