First, I find Kiffin's assertion hard to believe. I'm sure every coach and his staff feel like they are in first place the moment they leave a good home visit. Get a young guy for a couple of hours, give him your canned spiel, pull out all the stops. It's basically like a used car salesman working a customer. And, sure enough, good car salesmen can get you to walk off the lot having spent a lot more than you expected in the first place. BUT, in recruiting, there are other salesmen coming in, giving THEIR spiels; AND, there is the three day dead period to allow the recruit and his circle of friends and family the time to come to their senses and sort everything out. Kiffin may have felt they were in first place, maybe they were just temporarily at the moment they were in the homes of Peat and Murphy, but when the dust settles...
Second, is this something that Kiffin really want's to admit? That he couldn't seal the deal?
