The job should be an attractive one, owing to the depth and talent of the linebackers. It will be interesting to see whether Shaw goes for a more established coach than last time around (and if he has the budget to do so).

Tarver should realize that Stanford players might be a little sharper and more coachable than NFL players.  A smart guy with a biochem/mol bio graduate degree surely knows that...?  We'll see what he can do with a salaried platoon of football players, I guess.

He only spent one year at Stanford. Before that he was with the SF 49ers. I think he knows what he's getting in to. I don't know that he has called the defensive schemes/plays during games before - so that could be new.

Thanks to Coach Tarver for a fantastic job at Stanford.  Our defense played very well.  It's a shame that there will be more turnover, but Mason, Hart and Anderson are excellent coaches.  Coach Shaw will find another gem to add to the staff.

Here are some names that might be worth looking at to replace Tarver.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Mason as the sole coordinator, but it probably depends on who they can find that is interested and if they are ready and experienced to be a DC/co-DC.  At the very least, the staff needs to fill the spot for inside linebackers, which was Tarvers position responsibility in addition to DC duties.
