Assume that means the team will be playing on the road regardless of the opponent.  Probably a good thing since the Stanford campus will be otherwise occupied with Dead Week and finals the next 2 weeks.  Would be kind of fun actually if Stanford is matched vs. Northwestern (though NITology projects vs. Drexel).

A little about Cleveland State.  They play in the same conference (Horizon League) as Butler.

They beat Vanderbilt, the SEC champ, in Nashville.  They beat St. Bonaventure, the Atlantic 10 champ.  They beat Detroit, the Horizon League champ, twice.  They also won at Butler.  Their overall record this year is 22-10 (including 11-4 on the road) and they finished 2nd during the regular conference season.  How is it again that Stanford is the higher seed?

No UCLA in the NIT field.  They were 5th in the league and made the second round of the conference tourney.  Sort of surprising.  Howland made it sound like they would have taken the bid.

RPI was Cleveland State 85, Stanford 97.
Maybe Stanford was seeded 6th and Cleveland State was 3rd.  But when they looked at TV scheduling, they decided they needed a late, West Coast game, so they swapped the seeds.  There would be no difference in who plays whom, but it works right for scheduling.
(Note that NIT-ology site did not predict Cleveland State in the NIT)

Also, Stanford has the bigger home crowds:

Despite our crappy RPI, we were 53rd in both Ken Pomeroy's and Jeff Sagarin's rankings.  We ended up 5-3 against Tourney teams.  That's not a bad profile for an NIT team.  Cleveland State was 82nd according to Sagarin and Pomeroy, with a weaker strength of schedule.
