It sounds like it will be ready, just that this phase will not completely finished on gameday #1.  I suspect the real message here is that with some more money the stadium could be completely finished for that grand opening game.

Hey Regents, can we please have an extra $25 million or so to speed up construction?  Thanks, I am sure you will see, like we do, that this continues to be the best way to allocate our precious UCB alumni donation resources, state bond proceeds, and California taxpayer funds.

Isn't there a distinction between the project being finished and being usable for football game day purposes? My understanding was that the project would still be in process during the season, but that it would be available for games. Things like the HOF (such as it is) and other amenities will be open later in the season or next season.  It's not clear if the subcontractor understands that distinction or if they're implying it won't even be available for the minimum needs of game day.

Regardless, you can bet it will be available for October games. We need to open the new Memorial stadium the way we closed down the old.

I think it was clear for some time some of the more expensive luxury features might not be ready for Gameday #1.

However, putting in the field and fireproofing the press box were probably not on that luxury list.  It is only June, so I am sure all will get done.  The question is $$$, and the UCB AD seems fond of looking beyond its base for financial help.

I fully expect the excuses will come.  The UCB AD COULD have come in with only a $5 million deficit this year, but because of the unanticipated construction delays the UCB AD had to spend $XYZ million to expedite construction for the safety of the fans, media, and athletes.  There was no other way.  Sorry.
