I can't figure out why the author is so certain a freshman who hasn't set foot on campus is going to get the second most carries. That makes no sense at all.

I agree, Yvonne. It makes no sense to anoint Barry Sanders. My guess is that Wilkerson will get the bulk of the back-up carries behind Taylor. Ricky Seale or Remound Wright will get some carries as the # 3 back. Kelsey Young will be a wide receiver, and Barry Sanders will redshirt.

I tend to agree with Garvin here. I think the wildcat formation (or Sequoia, as the more enlightened called it) was equally maligned. Gaffney averaged seven to ten yards from that formation. Any play that is that successful should obviously be kept in the playbook, but fans and analysts alike were critical because it took the ball out of Andrew Luck's hands.

I seem to remember the wildcat was quite productive early in the season but much less so once opposing teams had some film on it. Maybe it's just my memory being selective but if that's the reality, averages may not be a good argument in favor of the wildcat.

For me, Wilkerson's lack of carries and production was the biggest mystery of the 2011 season.

Wilkerson played all of last season with an injury. He had surgery after the season and has been rehabilitating.

Odd as it seems.  Nice to know what we saw of Wilkerson last season probably wasn't a runner w/ bad instincts unable to make a big contribution behind one of the better Stanford OL in decades.  Good athletes can heal up from injuries.  It's a lot tougher for athletes with fundamentally flawed instincts to overcome those.
