Stanford continues to shed head coaches:

Edrick Floreal, the U.S. Olympic jumps coach, has left Stanford after 14 years to take over the track and field program at Kentucky, the school announced. Floreal was hired as an assistant coach at Stanford in 1998 and became head coach in 2005. His resignation follows those of Lea Maurer and Skip Kenney in swimming in the past two months.

Stanford ace pitcher Mark Appel, a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is reportedly strongly considering returning to the Cardinal and re-entering the draft next year. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported that Appel is "leaning against" signing with the Pirates. The deadline for draft picks to sign with MLB teams is 2 p.m. PT Friday.

The NCAA is all about dodges and making kludges to solve whatever bureaucratic issue they have in order to pretend that all is well and good with amateurism.

Boras is an "advisor." It's not recommended, however, to have an "advisor" in any other NCAA sports because uh...

Yep, kids are drafted all the time who are just starting college, and can keep playing college hockey up until they actually sign the contract no matter what else as far as I know.  I think the team that drafted them keeps their "rights" until they are out of college.

Not sure why the difference.  My only guess is it has something to do with the fact that it seems guys make the big leagues in the NHL and MLB at older ages (in the NHL at least it's pretty rare to see kids under 22 on a roster with any significant role, and lots of prospects will spend several years in the AHL before getting called up)
