Is it just me or has neither Woods nor Lee been as advertised so far this season?
The Pac-12 Network flashed a graphic that the two of them are the leading receiving duo this season but it seems like all those yards and touchdowns have been really quiet.

Somehow, despite outgaining the 59ers by 483 yards to 250, the Trojans aren't completely blowing them out. Underlying fundamentals of SC are basically fine (aside from injury/depth issues), but that's just weird.

U.SC's 290 rushing yards, and two 100+ rushers, puts our performance last week into real perspective. (Not that holding a team to 26 net yards needs additional frame of reference.) It also bodes well for Big Game. We're going to run all over the B&G.

kal's running defense stiffened up significantly in the second half. If kal had an average NCAA quarterback, as opposed to Zach Maynard, they could've won this game.
My read on this is that USC is simply not a stellar football team. They will lose another couple games this year.

And if USC had a healthy center they probably would've beaten them by 20 or 25. The 59er fans have the much better read on this: they were utterly dominated on every place but the scoreboard. I think people are overreacting to SC's struggles--to me, when I compare SC to other ranked teams around the country, I only see a few it can't hang with or be favored against. But I think you're making some excuses for JN- Maynard has had players drop balls as well, and he's also playing behind a less competent line, with multiple injured TEs. Sure Keenan Allen is better than anybody we have at WR, but Stanford's offense aside from the QB is better than kal's offense aside from the QB. And yet Maynard's numbers are significantly better, and it's not even that close.

It's not just Keenan Allen, but it's Bryce Treggs and Chris Harper. Either of the latter two would (probably) easily start and might well be the most talented wideout on the roster. Maynard may have had drops but they've been fewer and less egregious than Nunes'.

Nunes is better than Maynard because he is a leader. Maynard is not. Stanford's scheme and coaching also allows for team success even when the QB isn't sensational.

Wasn't Connor Shaw recruited by Stanford at some point? I forget whether academics dinged him or not...but in any case, he was great for South Carolina today. Ah well :) We run with the horses we have, and I hope the bye week was full of learning for JN.

I once heard a TV announcer comment that the most popular guy on a football team is the backup quarterback because the fans always want to put him in. As much as I wish we had a better quarterback, I don't know anything about the guys behind Josh, so I just hope that either he gets better or the rest of the team does well enough to make up for his weaknesses.
