There is obviously lots of room for improvement from last weeks game vs SJSU. Given that David Shaw doesn't have a magic wand and therefore won't be able to turn Josh Nunes into Andrew Luck in on week, what are three achievable goals you'd like to see the Card improve on this week?  Mine are:

1.  Consistent, high effort from the defensive front seven. If we can get this week in and week out, given the amount of talent and experience of this group, we should have a tough defense this year.

2. O line doing a better job on their assignments.

3. Open up the offense a little so that third and short aren't quite as predictable as week one.

Not sure if sarcastic, but the Wildcat worked pretty well as far as I could tell. I would like to see Wilkerson hand off on the jet sweep to Kelsey Young once in a while (I wonder whether Wilkerson is making a read or it's predetermined.)

Wilkerson's a big boy, he'd better be making a read.  But if we have a stable of running backs, we should be using them to our advantage...we'll need it.

Jumbo packages on third-and-1 or fourth-and-1 need to be a little less predictable than between the tackles running unless our OL improves.  I'd like to see some speed around the edge or play action passes to the tight ends in those scenarios.  How about some unbalanced line sets and toss/stretch/sweep plays?

I'd start with the sidelines:  no more clusterbombs (like being forced to call a timeout immediately on the heels of a TV timeout!).  Also, get the plays in quickly and decisively on both offense and defense.  I hate it when we burn TOs because the play clock is expiring - that is pretty close to inexcuable in my book.  It also drove me nuts when SJSU brought in their wildcat QB (who always ran the ball), and our defense was looking at the sideline for the call, instead of looking across the LOS, which would have made the defensive call easy!

I expect improvement on the sidelines first, and hope that translates to better play between the sidelines for the Cardinal on Saturday (though honestly, I don't "get" why people are whining about the defense, which overall played very well on Friday night).

The defense had its miscues, but they were more like ordinary need-to-get-cleaned-up stuff rather than the troubling stuff that occurred on the offensive side of the ball. The DBs need to be more judicious (or better about succeeding) about jumping routes. The front seven needed to do better with getting pressure (a lot of people blamed what success the QB had passing the ball on the DBs...but watch the tape again and you'll see the QB got tons of time and was poorly contained when pressured.) Again, not as serious as the offense, but still some important things to clean up.
