According to this Rule of Tree article, Dawkins' contract may have a clause that allows us to cut bait before the extension kicks in. That means this year or next.

The fact that Bob Bowlsby, the guy who hired Dawkins, is not the AD is somewhat promising news, although I suspect that if Bowlsby really did put something like that in Dawkins' contract, he wouldn't be skittish about firing him.

I know there are some examples of amazing interim coach stories, but generally I think it is better to let the coach stay for the full year especially since basketball offers so many chances to turn a bad season into an OK season.

The massive Galen center was virtually empty, so SC had to do something.  At least Maples is smaller, so it does not look as bad even if there are only 3,000 people at the game.

It will not be my money on the line to payout Dawkins.  Still, Dawkins does not appear to be the short, medium or long term answer for Stanford basketball.  And it is worth pointing out that if he does manage a miracle turn around over the next season or two, then he would likely go to Duke in the next 3-5 years.

Hasn't Bennett turned down multiple offers from big time programs (or at least teams from big time conferences.) Maybe if the primary reason for turning them down was to stay in the Bay Area, Stanford will be attractive?
