The Pac 12 network has been replaying Stanford and UCLA games all day.Â
Then they had Neuheisel and Lott give their analysis--Neuheisel was not bad. Neuheisel thinks UCLA will win if they can make Stanford not do the things that Stanford likes to do--run power on offense and rush the passer on defense. To do this UCLA should adopt an Arizona style offense and a Washington style defense. On offense spread the ball, lots of quick passes, and get Hundley to run a lot more than he did last week. Control the ball and make the Stanford D chase all over the field until they get worn down like they did against Arizona. On defense stop power, but don't do it with safeties lest you become vulnerable to the long run. Instead, add an extra lineman when needed and have linebackers fill the A gap. The key is timing with the linebackers, making sure the linebackers fill at the correct moment.Â
I wonder if Hundley was told to hold back to avoid injury last week, but this week he will be turned loose to run.
Listening to Neuheisel gave me that "stressy" feeling. Then again, if it were easy to do all the things he said UCLA needs to do I imagine they would have won last week.
