Any word on Stephens? I had understood we might hear something by mid-week about his availability for the Rose Bowl, but I haven't seen anything.

hopkins and callahan can spell parry and they play a lot of 4-3 so a full-time NT is not needed.

A really sad aspect to this is that Stephens was putting it all together and playing his best football of his career. Knowing you were denied the chance to play your best...it sucks.

I thought all along this was probably an NCAA issue--something basically forced on Stephens and the team from outside. All things considered, I think we should all breathe a sigh of relief...
...and say thanks to Stephens, a heralded recruit but also a guy who got better and better as his career went on.
Can't ask for more, and I wish him all the best with what I assume will be a degree and pursuit of an NFL career.

Parry will get the lion's share of the snaps, and he will be fine. Mauro or Anderson can slide inside when Parry needs a break.

First, I hate to see the words "NCAA Rules Violation" and Stanford anywhere near each other. I guess we should be relieved that the extra word, "secondary" is being thrown about, but it still is not good. Hopefully this serves as a warning to enthusiastic supporters of the program to be very careful.Â
Second: I wonder if the extra bowl practice will lead to either Lance Callahan or Anthony Hayes stepping up to give Parry a break. Wisconsin's line is enormous, and Mauro and Hopkins are typically DEs. It would be good for Stanford to have someone who can provide a bit more beef in the center, IMO. Of course, they won't burn the redshirt of Ikenna Nwafor just for the Rose Bowl, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how he develops next season, as a guy with the size to play anywhere along the line.

How does a secondary violation result in the loss of eligibility for 3 games? If someone is knowledgeable about the NCAA rules, I would be interested in an explanation of what happened in this case?

I would be surprised if Stanford were to give a significant role to a player who has not played any meaningful snaps this year (Hayes, Callihan, Hopkins). My guess is that Stanford will go with the guys who have been playing all along (Parry, Mauro, Anderson, Gardner), and just ask them to play a few more snaps.
