Army to hold spring game at Ft. Hood

Speaking of spring games, I read a tweet the other day (Andy Drukarev??) indicating that ours won't be at Kezar.

Really? That's interesting.Â
Of course, why would we want to go back to Kezar? I mean, we're only 35-5, with back-to-back-back BCS bowl games, since we started doing the Kezar thing... ???
If the spring game ISN'T at Kezar, and things go south next season, I vote for this -- over the resurrection of the H-word -- as the prime culprit.Â
Sure, 3 years of trying to figure out the hospital parking garage had me convinced I needed to bring Theseus along next time, but, still, why mess with success?
As the commercial says, it's only weird if it doesn't work...

I hear the Pac-12 Network will broadcast a number of the spring games, including Stanford's. It would be easier to broadcast from Stanford than from Kezar.

Was there any consensus over whether the Kezar spring game location helped with SF exposure and increased Stanford Football publicity?

ESPN managed to broadcast it in 2011, so I don't know.

I don't know, but the fans we did have loved it, which seems to be reason enough for me. I myself wanted to go to SF for the spring game and was contemplating going one of these games, but I think the chances are pretty minimal for Stanford Stadium.

Same here. I've been to 2 of the 3 Kezar games and they were a blast. I was looking forward to going again in April but probably won't if it's at Stanford, since it's a lot easier to talk the wife into a trip to SF over PA. I thought the Kezar game was a great PR move and I think it's a mistake to quit.

And that's the reality. Everything must bow to the Revenue Gods. I do hope some way to work the TV logistics can be found, but I bet the Stanford media bods aren't pretzeling themselves to save our new Kezar tradition.  (I will note that the camera angles at Kezar were fairly low, more like actually watching from the lower tiers in the stands, but with the benefit of telephoto lens. The normal play angle at Stanford Stadium is -- to my picky eye-- a little too high. Like being on the top of the press box, but without the free VIP eats and drinkies. I liked the Kezar view if only for the change of pace and the fact that the smaller stadium made the crowd presence more noticeable.

...because it made someone who remembers George Mira playing there for the 49ers not feel so old. Sort of like having Jerry Brown back as governor, except it doesn't cost me anything.

The current Kezar is not the same stadium. The old stadium was demolished in 1989 and replaced with a much smaller stadium which is used for high school games.

George Mira? I think Clint Eastwood.

Well, Fort Hood may be newer and with easier parking, but it doesn't have a recycling dump next door and Kezar Pub around the corner. I also doubt that it has a few hundred feet of tunnel filled with dust leading to a dilapidated locker room.
I've been up on the south side press box roof at Kezar helping a buddy film a game and the angle isn't that bad. It is more than a "field"; the place holds 10,000.
Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working .I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. Peter Gibbons

Could the AD be anticipating a crowd greater than 10,000 for the spring game?

I considered going to the previous spring games, but I loathe driving into SF, so I didn't bother (and I've heard that the area around Kezar is an absolute nightmare for parking). But I'd definitely go if I could just do my typical gameday ritual at Stanford.
