The ursines had more problems than I knew. I can't believe he expected to survive 2012. He walks out with a $5.55M consolation prize and will land in the coaching world somewhere.

Tedford is due to collect $5.5 million buyout from K.al. He can live in a state where he will pay approx. 10% income tax, or he can nip over to Nevada and pay 0% state income tax. Note: this assumes a lump sum buyout. Don't know the structure of the deal. He can live in the Bay Area and pay Bay Area property taxes, vs. rent or buy in Nevada and pay much less. Given that he wants back into the coaching game, he'd be smarter to rent, but he can buy a slightly downscale house and get a brobdingnagian discount over the prices in the Bay Area.

Not a fan of all the casinos, but the Reno-Tahoe-Carson City area is lovely.

The buyout money will still be subject to CA income tax, even if Tedford has moved to NV. All income earned in CA is subject to CA income tax, even for out-of-state residents (this is generally how state and local income taxes work -- the only exception I know of is DC, and that's because Congress won't let DC tax non-residents).
