Barring injuries is there any chance Ed Reynolds, David Yankey, Henry Anderson stay for a 5th year? What about AJ Tarpley, David Parry, and Cam Flemming? I know it will mostly depend on what happens during the season but do 5th year guys get to take normal classes or do they have to become grad students? And how would that effect their decisions?

I fully expect Yankey to leave he seems like a sure fire 1st round pick and we have the depth on the OL to replace him. If we could retain Ed and Henry along with the others I think we have a chance to be beyond special in 2014.

Of those you listed, Yankey is the only one that may grade out in the first four rounds and have an economic argument so it isn't obvious that those others will depart early, but you never know ala Terrence Brown.

Reynolds is definitely a top 4 round pick, he would of been one last year. More than anyone else getting Ed Reynolds back would be the biggest game changer

Reynolds is definitely a top 4 round pick, he would of been one last year. More than anyone else getting Ed Reynolds back would be the biggest game changer

Also, first year master's classes can be pretty "normal." Depending on the program, they might just be more upper-division classes in what you had already been majoring in.

Ed Reynolds is not a lock to go.  I think we and the NFL will be looking at his senior season pretty closely to see if he maintains or regresses in his most eye-popping stat:  interceptions.  No way of knowing if he regresses to some mean or truly has a gift...until the season is over.

Jordan Richards isn't as under the radar as some of us might think. Kiper had both he and Reynolds listed in his top five safety prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Yankey will definitely leave early and Anderson and Reynolds will likely as well. DBs who get picks are overvalued. And after being a 3 year starter I think Fleming leaves early unless he bombs this year and isn't projected to be drafted. He's not going to increase his stock anymore. Richards may want to stay to get his degree but I think he's going to have a monster season. And if any of these guys get a Skov-like injury then that could change things. Skov was considering leaving after his jr year if he was projected for the first round.

I honestly don't know if this particular info makes them more or less likely to leave. If we use it as a proxy to mean that they're on track to graduate, I would guess it makes it more likely that Anderson leaves and Richards stays. But who knows.

As Stanford brings in better quality athletes in conjunction with becoming a destination program, you may see more and more True Frosh playing expressly because playing them early allows Stanford to get a guaranteed three years out of someone, vs. two if they redshirt.

Look at Alex Carter.  By all appearances, the guy is a high round NFL pick in the making.  He's poised to have a real breakout year this season.  Had he redshirted, he'd be a redshirt Frosh this year, on track to really breakout in 2014, a year that he can declare for draft.  Had that been the case, Stanford may have only gotten two years out of him on the field.  As it is, he played and made a big contribution as a Frosh, will breakout this year, and Stanford has him for a third year in 2014.

A guy like Barry Sanders may be more likely to stay in college until his eligibility is up (given his father's influence), so red shirting him may not mean much in terms of losing him early.
