looks like Henry Anderson will be playing Nov 7

So .... The injured player I most want to see return now is Jordan Williamson.
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

Gardner has shown that he can play at a high level with a nagging injury. Williamson has not. Neither have replacements that can actually replicate their production. I'm actually not sure who would most improve our odds of winning, but I think you can make a case for either.

Wait did someone say we would be able to have only one player back? I missed that.

This board is also forgetting Devon Cajuste. I'd like to see him back as well.

That's the key. UCLA was able to hang with them for 3 quarters, but did not have the defensive depth to keep it close at the end. I confirmed my speculation with my UCLA cousin. He said their defense looked exhausted in the 4th quarter and had freshman on the field so nobody to substitute.
We get Anderson back and now Kaumatule adds depth. I say we hang with them the whole game again. I doubt we'll be able to hold them to 14 points so it will be up to the offense to put up significantly more than 17 points. I have no sense of how good Oregon's defense is or how they defense compared to last year. Eagerly awaiting Hank's blog with the enemy...

From what I've heard:
DL: ~same
LBs: worse, but not a lot worse.
DBs: Better, but not a lot better.
It's probably roughly a wash.

Not buying that a front 7 without Jordan, Alonso and Clay is "better."

Did anyone claim that they were? I've only heard that they're worse, but not bad.

Watched a lot of Ducks this year. They are slightly down overall but that's hard to tell when they're winning 66-14.
DL is good and a little better this year because the kids--Armstead, Balducci, and Buckner--are a year older. Anderson will be the best DL on the field but Hart is very good and Kelliikipi is good, too. Right now Mauro is at least as good as any Duck defensive lineman and the coaches would take Gardner over Hart. Edge Stanford but Oregon has nice depth and a good unit.
The LBs cannot hope to replace two NFL All Rookie linebackers, Alonso and Jordan, and none of the new guys even approximate the value of Michael Clay. He was the heart, soul, and glue of that defense for two years. Great guy and one of my favorite Pac-12 players of the last five years. The defense misses his intelligence and depth is an issue. Murphy, Skov, and Tarpley all would start on a combined team and Lokombo might be the only Duck LB who would see much rotation. brobdingnagian edge Stanford.
Mitchell and Ekpre-Olumu are the best pair of CBs in the conference but Reynolds and Richards are clearly better than Patterson (good) and Jackson (the weak link). Dargan has experience at backup. With three future NFL players back there, Stanford gets an edge.
Of course, no one is asking here about the offenses. Stanford clearly must have the much better defense to win this game.

Nice to see you and BoB on the Cardboard, Hulk. Welcome!
If I had a dollar every time I was distracted, I wish I had some ice cream.
