Weird the contrast in these two games, but I think worth noting.

UCLA had put together some strong defensive performances and games, and one of their pundits came in insisting that they might have the nation’s best front seven.  We’d heard about Vanderdoes and McCarthy and Marsh, and lots of folks talk about Barr and their linebackers.  Perhaps. 

But all night long, Hogan dropped back and stepped into the kind of clean pocket that we see only a couple times a year.  Stanford goes for 24 points but is just two bad drops short of 38.

We go to Corvallis.  They sound like  Scott Crichton’s one-man band up front--a band that had given up tons of points over the first month of the year.  Plus we have Yank/Peat/Danser, so we can hold off any pass rush.  The fans weigh in:  Stanford 31, Beavs 20.  And what happens?

The Beavers DL is on Kevin at the snap..  Does he see a clean pocket all night?  Perhaps a couple in the hurryup offense that ended the first half.  But otherwise, he looks like an erratic QB with too-happy feet. 

Is it partly a road issue?  Are defensive lines getting better jumps on us in places where our OL struggles to hear the snap count? 

Does this help explain why Hogan is the nation’s #9 QB at home but only the nation’s #59 QB on the road?

IIRC, it seemed like OSU targeted the right side of the line more frequently -- which is smart, because why would you send your best pass rusher against Peat and Yankey? I don't think UCLA ever tried to flip Barr, which still seems strange to me.
