I\'m watching a recording of the Stanford-Washington WVB match that took place Friday night. Mary Ellen Luck, Andrew\'s sister, is a frosh on the team, plays a lot and is clearly really good. There have been a number of shots of Oliver and Andrew in the stands, and boy can you tell they\'re related. There was one shot of the two of them laughing and looking at each other, and they looked like mirror images (albeit one a little older than the other).  :)

Actually, it seemed there were several freshmen playing quite a bit, though I don\'t remember their names at the moment. At one point the announcers were saying something about this being a frosh-soph-heavy team. I went on line and looked at the roster, and there are only three seniors and one junior, with the rest of the team being freshmen and sophomores.

Of course, those three seniors are Alix Klineman, Cassidy Lichtman, and Gabi Ailes -- so it isn\'t as if next year\'s team won\'t be a bit different...

Actually, it seemed there were several freshmen playing quite a bit, though I don\'t remember their names at the moment. At one point the announcers were saying something about this being a frosh-soph-heavy team. I went on line and looked at the roster, and there are only three seniors and one junior, with the rest of the team being freshmen and sophomores.

Of course, those three seniors are Alix Klineman, Cassidy Lichtman, and Gabi Ailes -- so it isn\'t as if next year\'s team won\'t be a bit different...

I was at the game Saturday night. I don\'t think she plays that much, though you could argue that playing any at all as a freshman on the Stanford team is a mark of distinction. Maybe Viking Guy will enlighten us.

The Stanford injury situation has wreaked havoc on the preferred player rotation, opening up opportunities for some who wouldn\'t have seen the floor much otherwise.  To her credit, Luck has stepped up and performed quite well.

As a defensive specialist, her opportunities are limited to the back row (half the game); only in very rare situations (like in "overtime" games when the team runs out of substitutions) would she ever have a chance to play in the front row.  Not sure if that\'s happened this year, but DS Benjamin had a few front row appearances last season.

It will be interesting to see what Dunning does with the lineup if/when some of the walking wounded are healthy enough to return to the floor.  Of particular interest would be Cook\'s return; they could return to a \'6-2\' formation and mothball the \'5-1\' that they\'ve been forced to use since she went down.  It was encouraging to see that she was boot-less at the Saturday match...
