And, as usual, the odds of getting Chris Petersen fall from "definitely, certainly, no questions about it, stone cold lock" to "not coming." I think Sarkisian committed sepuku by pursuing the USC job.  The question is how long he takes to bleed out.  He just looks more pathetic trying to re-define it as a 'conversation" with Pat Haden.  Riiight.  Probably discussed the best way to get rid of lawn beetles. Spray or Sevin powder?    UDub fans require someone to  a) win big and win big consistently  b) love and cherish UDub and UDub fans and never, ever let on that Seattle isn't the center of the football universe  c)  take it like a man when they decide to discard him.

Wasn't CP rumored to be a candidate when Harbaugh left and he quickly pulled his name off the table? Have things changed that much that he would be interested in the job now? Sounds like the source doesn't know anything.

I actually was worried CP would be a candidate for the U.SC job. Since the last time the rumors swirled, BSU has fallen off a big. And let's face it, US'C is one of the handful of jobs most coaches would die for. You know you can win championships there if you are a good coach. I'm kind of surprised he's backed out so quickly.

He was, which is why I was surprised to see Pete-to-Stanford rumored again. Have things changed? Perhaps he was skeptical of sustaining long-term success at Stanford? Perhaps he wanted to keep on coaching Kellen Moore? Who knows. It's a stupid rumor anyway; I doubt Petersen leaves Boise. If Shaw were to leave in the near- or medium-term future, I'd give him a call but wouldn't be terribly hopeful.

Petersen has a son attending HS in Boise and has stated several times he likes the Boise area and wouldn't consider accepting another coaching gig until his children have moved on to their college of choice.  And I wouldn't underestimate Boise State getting good again next year-they were very young this year but loaded with talent reaped from success of the past several years.

And yet, Ed Orgeron isn't being considered for this job despite his success as interim coach and notwithstanding the strong tweeted support from the SC players.  That is the myopic view of everything SoooCal.  If you don't beat UCLA and Notre Dame you have not a snowballs chance in hell of becoming the HC of Troy.

I don't think AD ever take player preference into account when choosing a new HC. Nor should they. Orgeron is a "fun guy" who buys them In-n-Out to celebrate wins and is clearly great at connecting with players based on his recruiting track record. But you can't ignore the fact that he went 3-21 in SEC play as HC as Ole Miss. Maybe it was a fit issue, but those teams didn't appear to improve at all.

US'C is going to get a proven winner. And 6-2 as interim coach is not the track record that will bring PH confidence.
