I don't know... I think SC sucking up the oxygen is a good thing for us. Yes, we may lose one or two guys to them but, by and large, our recruits are a different breed and will come to Stanford as long as we remain a good program regardless of how good SC is.
On the other hand, if SC isn't sucking up the oxygen, we end up with a bunch of pretty good teams throughout the conference as was the case this year, any of which could beat anyone else on a given day.
Beating one or two elite teams and bunch of mediocre ones in a season is easier than beating a pretty good team each and every week. The latter was the case in the PAC this year while the former is closer to the model that works so well for the SEC heavyweights.
