No one that he raced could match him for holding his top end.  It's a form of strength but not one of explosiveness, which is what you want most, and I'm not sure how the strength might translate into a football asset.  I'd love to hear what the coaches think, of course, and Sanford will tell us in less than two months.

Referring to him as "IBS" and discussing his explosiveness will ensure that he becomes a crappy inconsistent player that will cause us all great discomfort.  There has got to be a better way to reference his name, just for the sake of karma.

Perhaps the slow first step thing is why the coaches mentioned using him in a Kelsey Young type of role.  He can start in the jet sweep and get up to full speed which would help negate the quickness issue.  And who knows, he could always have a bright future in the Arena Football league where they allow receivers running starts.  Or maybe become a gunner on punts and kickoffs.

I respect your opinions and observations, Hulk, but if Mr. Brandt-Sims is as slow as molasses for his first 10 yards, he must be extraordinarily fast over yards 11-40 to be able to run a 4.37 40!  I've only seen a few of his videos, but the ones I have seen swhow me a powerful and elusive runner with great field sense.  I just read an account of his final HS game and in a loss in the State 4A semi-final (to the eventual winner) he gained 210 yards in 17 carries (including an 88-yard touchdown).  I'm not ready to toss him on the scrap heap of history, but we'll see in a year or two, won't we?

I haven't seen Brandt-Sim's senior tape yet.  Maybe it will look better.

For context, it's worth noting that Stanford fans perceive me as an optimist who errs on the coaches and player's side and rarely criticize coaches, players, or recruits.  So I voiced my puzzlement over our offer to Jemari Robert and the four-star rankings that he received, never saw the basis for our interest in Dickerson other than the Moneyball, looks the part part, and have often criticized two safeties and Stanford favorites--Bo McNally and Ed Reynolds--for their tracking and tackling, but those are exceptions. 

So if I puzzle over a guy's merits, it's after careful thought and frequent viewing.  And i utterly defer to the coaches: There's a good reason for this offer.  I just cannot figure out what it might be.

He has to be powerful because no sprinter can stick with him for the last thirty yards.  He definitely has some talent.

2012/2013: Dominant front seven complemented by a hard-hitting, fast secondary that doesn't miss tackles (except for may that one in the Washington game). Offense was inconsistent, but TEs (in 2012) and WRs(in 2013) + solid production from Taylor got us the points we needed.

Jordan Richards in the Pac-12 champ game...?  I think I saw a couple of bad angles leading to whiffed tackles and scores.  For both seasons ('12/'13), success in the run game generally set up explosive passing plays.
