The 2014 Rose Bowl is moving up there with Gettysburg and Ole Miss-LSU '59 in my pantheon of "just-can't-get-over-its."  It was painful when our final fourth down play collapsed, and although I can look back on a delightful day spent with my son at the game (which is a really big deal in my world), it's still painful.  It was worse than some of our other defeats, even the surreal horror at the Coliseum.

Unfortunately, Garvin (distracted no doubt by birthday bacchanals) has not yet written the opus that will turn back time, change what I wish hadn't happened on the field and produce a Stanford victory.  (I don't think that's so much to ask, really.)

No way.  Lots of green.  At one point it looked like three or four to one, but I think in the end it was about 70/30.  One thing was that even though msu was overwhelmingly overrepresented, they didn't seem disproportionately loud, except in a couple of instances.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be able to watch it either, knowing the result and how it unfolded.  All that being said, we must remember that the Rose Bowl IS the reward.  There is no game you get to play for winning the Rose Bowl.  Yeah, it would have been neat to be able to say, "Two time defending Rose Bowl Champs".  But it was still a fun time, and a great game, score notwithstanding.

The official Tailgater was excellent and a highlight of the day.  Attendance limited to 10K rather than 15K last year helped.  Food was tasty and plentiful (the folks walking around with walkie talkies from the caterer and the Alumni Assoc had the good humor to wear buttons that read "Yes There Is Food").  Bar lines were short.  Lots of activities (photo booths, football skill games for the kids, face painting, etc).  Well laid out by class to increase the likelihood of seeing friends.  My only complaint was that the beer choices were limited to lager.

2.  How did the Stanford fans show in the Rose Bowl?  Were we as well represented as last year?

Stanford sold its entire 33K allotment, as did MSU.  But MSU fans were much more active than Stanford in the secondary market.  Stanford had about 45K last year, maybe 35K this year.

3.  Any Cardboard get together a ?

While this appears to be a situation like Montgomery-era hoops when there is no satisfying closure at season end, fans should remember this - STANFORD CARDINAL, 2013 PAC 12 CHAMPIONS.  There are 11 other teams in the conference that cannot say that.  The goal at the beginning of every season is to win a championship and this team did so.

It sounds like you are accusing the ticket office of lying, which I don't think is the case. Their specific claims (from http://www.gostanford.com/ViewArticle.db...=208451601), are that:

• 95% of Stanford allotment were sold to existing season ticket holders
  
• Stanford allotment was 30K (33% of total capacity)
  
• MSU allotment was 24K (26% of capacity)
  

The total Rose Bowl capacity is about 92K, which means that there were 38K (41%) tickets that were not specifically allocated to either school.

So even if none of the Stanford allotment were sold to MSU, if they bought all of their own plus the unaffiliated tickets on the open market, it would be 67% of the stadium. While it seems unlikely that MSU bought 100% of the unaffiliated tickets, I could believe they bought the vast majority of them given the pent up demand.

I do think a significant percentage of the Stanford allotment were sold to MSU fans (from personal observation sitting in a Stanford endzone section, my estimate was maybe 10-15% MSU), but I think that was because there were Stanford ticket holders who could not resist the windfall of selling those seats. I asked a few of the MSU fans around me where they got their tickets and they generally said StubHub, not the ticket office.
