I agree that he added the most value, but this methodology understates it.  We are still reaping the benefits of his association with the program and his role in its turnaround.  The only other program that similarly benefits from a former player might be aTm.  The other schools were either powers before, or I'm skeptical that because so and so went there, other players will go there now (e.g. Russell Wilson).

The key factor for Town picking SC was (and I'm paraphrasing) "they play a fast paced, no huddle, west-coast offense which suits my skills perfectly." I don't think Shaw is changing anytime soon. So, I'd say there's no chance of a "flip."

Of course, what recruits say about their reasons doesn't necessarily entail an undistorted reflection of their real reasons. Town first committed to Alabama, whose completely non-west coast, non-no-huddle offense seemed to fit his skills perfectly until they hired Lane Kiffin.

This isn't to say he's likely to flip - I see no evidence for that.

My understanding from recruitniks is that Town was offered by Stanford and turned the Cardinal down in favor of Alabama.

Then Town left 'bama and didn't give Stanford a sniff, instead signing with USC.

I see zero chance of a Ricky Town flip, which is too bad.

P.S.  It's not inconceivable that Stanford has been winning a lot despite its offense (and not because of it).  And if the Town recruitment becomes anything more than an outlier, then Stanford may have some re-thinking to do.
