After watching some highlights, I am pretty excited about this commitment. I wonder if he is friends with Nick Wilson since they both come from Alpharetta, Georgia (different high schools though) and committed within a week of each other. One thing I love about Sheffield is that he could potentially be something that we have been lacking for some time, namely a slasher who can put the ball on the floor. To my memory, we have not had a player over 6'5" who could reliably handle the ball and get to the rim since Casey Jacobsen or Josh Childress. Sheffield doesn't appear to have the long range capability and quick trigger of Jacobsen or quite the same hops as Childress had. I'd say that his game reminds me most of a taller Chasson Randle, with a herky-jerky style, an array of floaters, and some mid-range game where he draws contact for fouls.
I actually like how the roster is filling out for the future, particularly if Cartwright ends up being good. We will lose Randle, Brown, and Nastic after this year. But we will continue to be long (with Rosco Allen, Verheoeven, Humphreys, and Rimmer all 6'9" and taller). And if Reid Travis fills our rebounding need, we will be all right. Could use a superstar center, but who couldn't? I don't know if we will ever truly be title contenders in this era of the one-and-done, but we should be pretty good.
