True Garvin, but quitting rather than serving your punishment does not reflect well on one's character. I would lose a lot of trust in a teammate who did that.

If I were in RichRod's shoes I wouldn't let him come back.  Quitting instead of owning up to your mistakes and taking the consequences is a sign of poor character.

I guess Rich coulda' added: "Yep, it's never too late to do the discipline. Hint-hint.  I'm an understanding guy and sometimes players just need a little time and to have things explained to them.  I'd be glad to explain it so the young man would understand it's not a big deal.  Nothing worth quitting over.  The door is never locked from the inside.  Sometimes these young players hear the word "discipline" and they just freak, you know what I mean?

RedRum, I do know, sadly I teach in a major at that university that brings me into contact with the athletic department (and RichRod's players) far too often. My disgust with how major athletics work at colleges outside of the Farm is at an all time high right now, no relation to this story.

This is why, when D-Shaw talks about the universities failing their athletes, and that the education should take priority, I smile and think how it was when I was a student. I was tutored by our nose tackle in my Calc 43 class.
