The opponents have scored at least 30 points against the Bears in each of the last 14 consecutive games. I believe that is the longest streak (giving up 30) in the history of major conference football.

At least they are making history. 

I am reminded of that historic losing streak at Northwestern finished off by Dennis Green when they set the record for longest losing streak.  The fans stormed the field to celebrate, tore down the goal posts, and chanted "we're the worst, we're the worst."  I say we should all strive to give C.al something similar to cheer about.

I am sure one of these decades UCB will cycle back to mediocrity at some point.  Amazingly, getting a cycle that includes the Rose bowl just might not happen.  I am not really sure the Rose Bowl will be around in ~20 years.  And 20 years is not that far away if the 1958-59 season is used as the reference point.

UCB apparent cycle back to the top is so long that becoming Rose Bowl champ really is not even an objective for the best Pac-12 teams.  For example, I hope Stanford is the 2015 Rose bowl winner, but I hope they won't view that as an accomplishment worthy of excessive celebration.

Stanford has demonstrated an ability to have cycle low points down in that same territory, but thankfully Stanford's cycle high points have been much, much better than UCB's cycle peaks over the last 50+ years.

We have taken advantage of our opportunities with some really nice achievements.

Wouldn't it be great if C.al were able to break Northwestern's record of futility?  Sadly, I don't think C.al is nearly bad enough to accomplish it, even though it probably feels that way to their fans.  Northwestern went 3-62-1 over six years, and still holds the nation's longest Division I losing streak at 34 games from 79 to 82.  I particularly like the video's point that Northwestern's greatest success for a while was a tie game: a 0-0 tie.

The description of the penultimate celebration starts about 2:20 in.

It is also interesting to see some very early Denny Green clips from 1981-82.  He does not look very convincing as he tries to talk-up Northwestern's chances as he takes over as coach.

Well said.  When I climb down from my obligatory Stanford chauvinism I sometimes confess to myself that C.al, as a top flight public academic institution, is far from being very high on my hate list.  Oh, and as my Mom is a 1945 graduate I come from a "mixed" family!  My greatest disappointment with C.al is just as you say--its sacrifice of academic standards under the last regime.  If its APR reflected the academic reputation of its host university, your team would be second in the Pac 12 only to Stanford, and I could look at our contests as friendly rivalries.  But when C.al sank to 12th out of 12 in APR--below even US.C, C.al threatened to become a genuine object of scorn.  I'm hoping as you are that our state's premier public university is able to get its priorities straight and return the Big Game to a contest between two sets of excellent student-athletes.

My point was if Stanford wins the Rose Bowl then they would need to go 1-0 just ~11 days later.  And proper preparation for that task would not permit excessive celebration.  (No welcome home parades, no rallies at Maples, etc.)  And that is a big change from what winning the Rose Bowl meant for a team back in 1959 or 1938.

Was it that much different for us in the first half of the last decade?  Did the Weenies have any such mercy on us?  NO ******* WAY.  And I am not a big enough person to stay above that, especially when it comes to CSU East Bay (North Campus).

Looks increasingly like they may not double last season's wins and the losing streak against FBS teams will go above 25.  Not quite Northwestern territory but you can see it from where they will be come December.

I hope they get better - Big Game has gotten REALLY boring.
