No, I was not drunk when I wrote that.  It appears that I must have been when I failed to re-read and edit it.

Here's the essence:

We've faced the best two defenses we will face, and a remarkable number of the best defenders.  UCLA has a few stars and Oregon has Ekpre-Olumu, and that's it.

I don't know if the coaches will finally opt for a 3-4 instead of a 4-3, but I think they will.

It's a shame they can only name four defensive backs because Ekpre-Olumu is a lock, Ishmael Adams has gone nuts, Su'a Cravens is a demon, and Richards is the best safety in the conference.  So those guys takes four spots and keep  Marcus Peters and Alex Carter off the first team.

Weren't the chop blocks really the OL's fault? Wright had already engaged them low when the OL went high. Sure, he was there, but he was doing his job. The OL should be able to see that the defender has already been cut and not engage.

Maybe those were bad blocks by Wright, that's beyond my ability to tell. They sure looked effective to me though.

I'm just a fan posting on a fan board, so I couldn't tell the intricacies of chop blocks from those of chop stix.  However, the guys on the radio [Husak, et al., who presumably do know something about this] pretty clearly thought that the Washington episode, at least, was on Wright, not the OL.

I get your context, but unfortunately we can't just forget about non-conference play. ND's defense I'd wager is better than UW's or SC's.

I think with regards to Wright, you have to differentiate the consequences which are directly attributable to his mistakes (two 15 yard penalties, a loss of possession) from the ones that are dependent on the circumstances we were in.  Had Hogan airmailed his delivery and missed his target (or sc not had such a massive breakdown indefense), then the consequences would have been just the 15-yard loss.  Likewise, wright had no role to play in what happened after uw recovered the fumble.

Moreover, he seems to have been victimized by two controversial  calls.  The first chop block could have also been a no-call, and I suspect frequently is (no doubts on the chop block against uw, and that might call for a change in technique on Wright's part).  And the whistle should have blown the fumble dead before he fumbled it, as his forward momentum had been stopped.  Unfortunately it is not reviewable.

I more concerned with process than outcome.
