Stanford gave up a total of 16 sacks in 2013 and 19 in 2012, but Hogan already has been sacked 7 times in 4 games this year, including 2 games against sub-standard defenses.  I raise this issue because this N*D team has been doing a good job of hitting opposing QBs.  N*D's sack total of 8 is not so high, but the team already has 18 hurries in only 4 games.  The combined total of sacks and hurries is 6.5 per game, while Stanford, a very good defensive team, is under 4 per game.  Can Stanford find ways to protect Hogan despite having an inexperienced o-line?  Would roll outs be as effective in protecting Hogan as they were in the Oregon game last year?  If we're going to see a lot of stunts and blitzes, what sort of plays is Shaw likely to call to take advantage of the gaps in N*D's defense?

I thought what the team and Hogan did this past Saturday as far as the 14 Hogan rushes might have been influenced by the Huskies' rep as a team that can get after the passer. Hogan overall this year I think has seemed more willing to run, but it seemed to me especially so this game.

I think you are right about Hogan needing to run.  Hogan needs to keep good track of time with his internal clock so that he can take off if he doesn't see a target open pretty quickly.  Finding a secondary or tertiary receiver is not really his strong suit anyway, so may as well try to get some yards by running and sliding feet first.  No more lowering his shoulder.

He needs to be much more sudden when he runs, like he was in 2012.  These days when he runs, he doesn't seem fully committed and is easily dragged down from defenders who aren't hesitating to go full speed after him.

I don't seem to remember Hogan having fumble issues in 2012 when he scrambled. Don't know why he would regress in his ball security but it has definitely happened, so every time he takes off it's nerve wrecking cause that ball is swingin' free...
