Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The smaller Dayton team sure ran circles around us in the Sweet 16 game.
But the big issue for me is that last year's team had a lot of trouble with ball movement and finding an open guy on offense. Remember all those possessions where we just passed the ball around the perimeter and never really ran a play? That could be even worse this year--Powell and Huestis were #1 and #4 on the team in assists last year. Even if Travis and Allen are good passers for forwards, they're both freshman, and I wouldn't expect a lot of assists from them.Â
Maybe we're better off with Roscoe Allen and Reid Travis in the lineup and no real PG, but I'd hope that Dawkins will at least consider going with a guard who can run the offense and dish to open guys. Perhaps none of our guards are ready yet, but Marcus Allen had some nice moments last year, and Robert Cartwright was the #11 PG in his class according to Scout.
