A dispatch from the front lines: I was at the game, sitting in great seats at the 40 yard line but amidst the UCLA faithful. Even by California standards, it was an absolutely gorgeous day, probably mid 80s at kickoff. As the heat mounted (we were on the sunny side) and the Cardinal death grip on the game tightened, the UCLA folks just kept getting more and more quiet. People actually started leaving towards the end of the third quarter, and when Hogan threw that dart to Owusu -- the fortyish yard play early in the fourth quarter before the field goal, it was as if half the stadium got up and left. It was all pretty delicious.
If you were at the game, you must have been as impressed as I was by our new placekicker -- W.illingham is the guy's name...at least according to the stadium announcer. To be fair, I believe he got the name right on his eleventh [and last] kick.
My son and I decided hey...why not?, so we left Menlo Park this a.m. at 5:35, got to the Rose Bowl at 11:15, got our burgers and took our StubHub seats in Section 15 [one over from the main Stanford section, but mostly surrounded -- at the beginning of the game, that is ;D -- by Bruin fans], thoroughly enjoyed the game [although, as is always the case, remained extremely worried that the lead would run out before the clock did], sang Hail!, walked back to our car at the end of the golf course, smiling widely at the already largely vacant parking lots, got back quickly on the 210, listened to the UCLA radio guys lament how Shaw thoroughly outcoached Mora...again..., stopped at In-n-Out in Kettleman City, and got back to Menlo Park around 10:20 pm.
Boy...that was fun!  zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Simply outstanding description. I envy you completely.Â
BTW, I've stopped at that Kettleman's City In-N-Out probably two dozen times over the last decade on the way back from volleyball tournaments.
