I've been off the grid for a couple of weeks, so I was surprised to learn that the Stanford men open the Pac-12 portion of their schedule today (Friday, January 2) versus WSU at...noon.

Since I'm at work, I'll be checking the score online, but it would be nice to get feedback from someone--anyone?--who attends the game.

For those who need to be reminded: Stanford was picked by the media to finish 5th in the Pac this year, WSU 11th and UW 6th.

At the half, it's Stanford 27, WSU 24. Stanford is shooting 10-31 (.323) from the floor, Randle is 0-7. In fact, Stanford missed its first 7 shots to dig themselves into an early 8-point hole, so all things considered, we're lucky that WSU is a bad team.

Second half is better... We are up 58-43 with about 6 minutes left.  That means that after starting down 12-2, we have outscored WSU  56-31 run.

They must have used time travel to import Pac-12 referees from the 1990s.  There were 47 combined fouls and 60 FT attempts. WSU somehow got 39 FT attempts to our 21 despite only a 26-19 differential in fouls.  Numbers like those make me very glad I didn't watch this game.

They must have used time travel to import Pac-12 referees from the 1990s.  There were 47 combined fouls and 60 FT attempts. WSU somehow got 39 FT attempts to our 21 despite only a 26-19 differential in fouls.  Numbers like those make me very glad I didn't watch this game.

Despite a dreadul start which saw him score 1 point in the first half (and miss all seven of his shots), Randle led all scorers with 18, and we wound up shooting a respectable 46.4% (after missing our first 7 shots).

Ugly, but a win.

Thanks for the report, Garvin. One small nit to pick: Stanford actually shot 46% from the field. It was WSU that shot 33%.
