NYTimes has an article talking about the impact on FT shooting percentages coming from the ASU student section seated under the basket. The use of a "curtain" to hid the distraction until the moment of truth is an ingenious evolution. I can imagine the fun these student have thinking up new ways to distract opponent, getting together the props, setting them up quickly between shots. I'd love to see what Stanford students would put together.

As an aside, Stanford has a relatively low delta between it's FT percentage at ASU vs. other away games, but the N is probably too small to make a conclusion for any of these schools.

I seem to recall a game in the early 80's when a group of students unfolded a bunch of Playboy centerfolds behind the backboard and caused the visiting player to miss a crucial free throw.  I also recall the referee awarding the player another shot and the second shot being made.  I was outraged because it is not illegal to show 18 year old college basketball players pictures of naked women.  Does anybody else remember this?  I would feel more certain if I wasn't aging and didn't fear being suspended for 6 months because I have embellished my stories and life over the years.  ;)
