It strikes me as a tad desperate for a coach to tell a recruit he reminds the coach of his former protege who happens to be The It Boy at the QB position right now. Is Harbaugh going to flatter every future QB recruit by telling him he sees Luck-ian potential?

Actually, I wouldn't. I would expect at least some recruits will see this as a cheap ploy to get their commitment. Also, if he says it to every recruit, won't they realize when they compare notes (or happen to see articles like this) that he does it with everyone and it will lose any force? But maybe I underestimate teenage boys and their parents susceptibility to flattery... Or maybe Brandon Peters really is the second coming of Luck.

Were I a blue chip QB recruit and Harbaugh told me he saw a lot of Luck in me, I would feel elated. Then when I read that Harbaugh said the same thing about 2-3 other recruits, I would probably start thinking Harbaugh is a phony and a flatterer. But then again, I'm not a blue chip QB recruit and am always skeptical of compliments.
